How to choose an AEG cooling appliance

Start with the type of storage you need, then check installation. An integrated appliance has to match the kitchen housing dimensions and furniture-door system, while a freestanding model needs sufficient space for the cabinet, ventilation, door opening and delivery route.

Appliance type Best suited to Important checks
Fridge Homes needing maximum fresh-food storage or using a separate freezer Fridge capacity, height, hinge system, shelf and drawer layout
Freezer Dedicated frozen-food storage and batch cooking Freezer capacity, frost management, drawers, freezing performance and installation
Fridge freezer Combining chilled and frozen storage in one appliance Total capacity, fridge/freezer split, frost system, hinge type and niche dimensions
Wine cooler Dedicated wine storage at controlled temperatures Bottle capacity, number of temperature zones, dimensions, ventilation and door clearance

Integrated or freestanding AEG refrigeration?

Most AEG cooling appliances in this category are designed for built-in or integrated installation. Integrated fridges, freezers and fridge freezers normally sit behind matching kitchen furniture doors, so check both the cabinet aperture and the method used to connect the furniture door to the appliance.

AEG uses both fixed door-on-door and sliding-door systems. These are not interchangeable without checking the cabinetry and installation requirements. A replacement appliance should therefore be selected using the exact installation specification rather than height and width alone.

Freestanding refrigeration has its own finished exterior and does not need a furniture door, but it still requires suitable ventilation and door-opening clearance. Large French-door models also need a suitable route from the property entrance to the final installation position.

Check dimensions and capacity

Cooling appliances with similar headline heights can have different niche requirements, usable capacities and internal layouts. For built-in models, check the full appliance dimensions and required housing dimensions. For tall refrigeration, common nominal formats include approximately 178cm and 189cm, while integrated under-counter appliances are typically around 82cm high.

Compare usable capacity in litres rather than choosing on external size alone. With a fridge freezer, look at the fridge and freezer capacities separately because two appliances with similar total volume can divide the storage very differently.

Fixed hinge or sliding hinge?

On a fixed door-on-door appliance, the kitchen furniture door is attached directly to the appliance door. With a sliding-door system, the furniture door remains hinged to the cabinet and connects to the appliance using sliding fittings.

The correct system matters particularly when replacing existing integrated refrigeration. Check the individual product specification and installation drawing before ordering rather than assuming every AEG integrated fridge or freezer uses the same fittings.

Frost Free, No Frost and LowFrost

No Frost

AEG No Frost freezers are designed to prevent significant ice build-up, removing the need for routine manual freezer defrosting. Selected fridge freezers use TwinTech No Frost, with separate cooling systems for the fridge and freezer so the freezer remains frost-free while the refrigerator can maintain suitable humidity for fresh food.

LowFrost

LowFrost is different from No Frost. It uses concealed cooling circuits to reduce frost build-up and make manual defrosting easier and less frequent, but it should not be described as fully frost-free.

AEG freshness and airflow features

DynamicAir

DynamicAir circulates cold air through the refrigerator to help maintain a more consistent temperature between shelves. It is useful where stable cooling throughout the fridge is more important than relying on natural cold-air movement alone.

Cooling 360°

Selected AEG fridge freezers use multiple air channels to circulate cool air around the refrigerator. The aim is to maintain more consistent temperatures across shelves and restore cooling effectively after the door has been opened.

GreenZone and GreenZone+

Selected fridge freezers include dedicated GreenZone storage for fruit and vegetables. These compartments are designed to manage humidity around fresh produce, helping provide more suitable storage conditions than an unrestricted refrigerator shelf.

LongFresh

Selected AEG refrigerators provide a LongFresh compartment operating at a lower temperature than the main refrigerator. It can be useful for ingredients such as meat, fish and selected fresh produce that benefit from more precisely controlled storage.

What is AEG AI CoolAssist?

Selected current AEG fridge freezers use AI CoolAssist to adapt cooling settings according to appliance usage patterns such as door openings. It can adjust operating modes automatically when shopping is added or during periods of lower use.

AI CoolAssist should not automatically be treated as Wi-Fi connectivity. Smart-app control is model specific, so check whether the individual appliance explicitly supports the AEG app if remote control or notifications are important.

AEG wine coolers

AEG wine coolers provide dedicated bottle storage with controlled temperatures. Current designs include compact built-in and under-counter formats, with both single-zone and dual-zone options depending on the model.

Single-zone models maintain one selected temperature throughout the cabinet. Dual-zone designs allow separate sections to be set independently, which can be useful when keeping different wine styles at different serving temperatures.

Check bottle capacity alongside the physical dimensions. Published capacities are normally based on standard bottle formats, so wider Champagne or Burgundy-style bottles can reduce the number that fits in practice.

Energy class and noise

Compare the current A–G energy rating together with annual energy consumption. Capacity matters when comparing refrigeration because a larger appliance can consume more electricity annually while still using its storage space efficiently.

Noise is also worth checking where the kitchen is open to dining or living areas. Compare the stated dB figure and noise-emission class for the individual appliance rather than assuming all models within the same AEG series operate at the same level.

AEG cooling appliances FAQs

What AEG cooling appliances are available?

The range includes fridges, freezers, fridge freezers and wine coolers, predominantly in integrated formats with selected freestanding refrigeration. Availability changes, so use the product grid for the current assortment.

What is the difference between an integrated and freestanding fridge freezer?

An integrated fridge freezer is installed within kitchen cabinetry and normally sits behind matching furniture doors. A freestanding fridge freezer has its own finished exterior and stands independently, although it still requires ventilation and door clearance.

What is the difference between a fixed hinge and sliding hinge?

A fixed door-on-door system attaches the furniture door directly to the appliance door. A sliding system keeps the furniture door hinged to the kitchen cabinet and links it to the appliance using sliding rails or fittings.

Does an AEG No Frost freezer need defrosting?

No Frost technology is designed to prevent significant ice build-up, so routine manual freezer defrosting is normally unnecessary. LowFrost is different: it reduces frost formation but can still require occasional manual defrosting.

What is AEG TwinTech No Frost?

TwinTech No Frost uses separate cooling systems for the fridge and freezer. This allows the freezer to remain frost-free while helping the fridge retain suitable humidity for fresh-food storage.

What does AEG Cooling 360° do?

Cooling 360° circulates cold air through multiple channels to help maintain more consistent cooling throughout the refrigerator compartment.

What is AEG GreenZone?

GreenZone is a dedicated storage area designed to maintain suitable humidity around fruit and vegetables. The exact drawer design and humidity control vary by model.

Are AEG AI CoolAssist appliances connected to Wi-Fi?

Not necessarily. AI CoolAssist can adapt cooling according to appliance usage, but app and Wi-Fi connectivity are separate model-specific features. Check the individual specification for explicit AEG app support.

What should I check before replacing an integrated AEG fridge or freezer?

Check the appliance dimensions, cabinet aperture, ventilation requirements, furniture-door split and whether the installation uses fixed door-on-door or sliding hinges. Matching only the headline height is not sufficient.

Can an AEG wine cooler store both red and white wine?

Yes, but the degree of flexibility depends on the number of temperature zones. A single-zone cabinet keeps all bottles at one selected temperature, while a dual-zone model can maintain different temperatures in separate sections.
