AEG Microwaves & Combination Microwave Ovens
Shop AEG built-in microwaves and combination microwave ovens for integrated kitchens. Choose from dedicated microwaves for reheating, defrosting and everyday microwave cooking, or compact combination models that add fan oven and grill functions in one appliance.
Compare cavity capacity, microwave power, cabinet dimensions and cooking functions before ordering. Selected AEG models also add SteamSet, CombiQuick, connected controls, guided cooking and Food Sensor technology, while installation requirements range from plug-in built-in microwaves to hardwired compact combination ovens.
Choosing an AEG microwave
The first decision is whether you need a dedicated microwave or a combination microwave oven. They may appear together in the same built-in appliance category, but they serve different purposes and require different installation spaces.
AEG built-in microwaves
A dedicated built-in microwave is designed primarily for microwave cooking, reheating and defrosting. These models are a practical choice when you already have a separate oven and want an integrated microwave positioned in a wall unit or tall housing.
Compare microwave output, cavity capacity, turntable size and the required cabinet depth. Some compact built-in microwaves require considerably less cabinet depth than a combination oven, which can make them useful for shallower wall-unit installations.
AEG combination microwave ovens
AEG combination microwave ovens combine microwave energy with conventional oven functions such as fan cooking and grilling. They can operate as an oven, as a microwave or use compatible cooking methods together for faster preparation with an oven-style browned or crisp finish.
These models typically require a 45cm-high built-in oven housing and a hardwired electrical connection, so they should not be treated as direct replacements for a smaller plug-in integrated microwave.
Dedicated microwave or combination microwave oven?
| Type | Best suited to | Typical features | Installation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in microwave | Reheating, defrosting and everyday microwave cooking | Microwave power levels, automatic defrost, Quick Start and selected SteamSet accessories | Built into kitchen furniture; selected models use a standard UK plug |
| Combination microwave oven | Microwaving plus baking, roasting, grilling and combination cooking | Microwave, fan oven, grill and combination programmes | Usually installed in a compact oven housing and hardwired |
AEG microwave capacity and power
Capacity is measured in litres, but the right size depends on what you intend to cook. A smaller built-in microwave can be sufficient for plates, bowls and everyday reheating, while a larger cavity provides more room for cookware and combination cooking.
Microwave output is measured in watts. Higher maximum power can reduce heating time, but power level control is equally important when defrosting or heating foods that require gentler cooking.
Do not compare microwave wattage with the total electrical load of a combination oven. A compact combi appliance may have a 900W or 1000W microwave function while requiring a substantially higher electrical supply to operate its conventional oven and grill elements.
AEG microwave technology explained
| Feature | What it does | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| SteamSet | Uses a dedicated accessory with selected AEG microwaves to prepare food using microwave cooking and steam. | You want additional flexibility for vegetables and other foods suited to steaming without installing a full steam oven. |
| CombiQuick | Combines microwave technology with conventional oven heat to shorten cooking times while retaining oven functions such as baking, roasting and grilling. | You want one compact appliance to perform both microwave and oven cooking. |
| Inverter microwave technology | Delivers microwave power more consistently rather than repeatedly switching full power on and off. | You want more controlled microwave heating and defrosting. |
| EXPlore | AEG's control interface using a display with touch controls and, on selected models, rotary controls. | You prefer straightforward manual access to temperature, time and cooking functions. |
| CookSmart Touch | Provides a touchscreen interface with guided functions on selected MealAssist combination ovens. | You want more visual cooking guidance and easier access to automatic functions. |
| CookSmart Touch+ | Adds a larger touchscreen interface and guided cooking functions on selected ProAssist models. | You want AEG's more advanced control and assisted-cooking interface. |
| Food Sensor | Measures the internal temperature of food during oven cooking on selected combination models. | You regularly roast or cook foods where internal temperature is more useful than cooking time alone. |
| Connected cooking | Allows compatible models to connect to the AEG app for selected remote functions, guidance and software updates. | App connectivity is useful to you and the individual model specifically supports Wi-Fi. |
SteamSet is not a full steam oven
Selected AEG built-in microwaves include a SteamSet accessory that allows steam-assisted food preparation using the microwave. This should not be confused with a dedicated steam oven or a combination steam oven with an integrated steam-generation system.
If steam cooking is a major part of how you prepare food, compare the microwave with AEG's dedicated steam and combination steam ovens before deciding which appliance type is appropriate.
What is AEG CombiQuick?
CombiQuick is used on AEG combination microwave ovens that combine conventional oven heat with microwave technology. Depending on the model, cooking functions can include fan cooking, grilling, reheating, defrosting and modes that operate microwave power and oven heat together.
This makes a CombiQuick model substantially more versatile than a dedicated microwave, but it also means the appliance behaves more like a compact built-in oven when planning cabinet space, electrical supply and accessories.
Check the installation dimensions carefully
Built-in microwave dimensions are not interchangeable. Check both the appliance dimensions and the manufacturer's required built-in aperture before ordering.
Dedicated integrated microwaves can use different housing heights and depths depending on their capacity. AEG combination microwave ovens generally use a compact oven-style housing, but exact aperture dimensions must still be checked for the individual model.
Electrical requirements also differ. Some dedicated microwaves are supplied with a UK moulded plug, while many combination microwave ovens require a hardwired electrical connection. Do not assume one appliance can replace another without checking the cabinet and electrical installation.
Do you need a grill or full oven functions?
A microwave grill is useful when you want to brown or crisp food after microwave cooking. A full combination microwave oven goes considerably further by adding conventional oven functions such as hot-air cooking, roasting and baking.
If you only need quick reheating and defrosting, paying for a full combination oven may add functions you rarely use. If the appliance needs to operate as a second oven, a larger CombiQuick model is generally the more appropriate format.
Connected and non-connected AEG microwaves
Not every AEG combination microwave oven is a smart appliance. Some EXPlore-controlled models operate entirely from their built-in controls, while selected connected models support smartphone or tablet functions through the AEG app.
Check the individual specification for Wi-Fi or connectivity rather than assuming that a particular control-panel design, series number or CombiQuick branding automatically means the appliance is connected.
AEG microwave FAQs
Are AEG microwaves built in?
The current AEG microwave selection at Appliance Superstore consists of built-in products. The range includes dedicated integrated microwaves and compact combination microwave ovens, so cabinet and electrical requirements vary between models.
What is the difference between an AEG microwave and an AEG microwave oven?
A dedicated microwave is intended mainly for microwave cooking, reheating and defrosting. A combination microwave oven also includes conventional oven functions such as fan cooking and grilling, allowing it to bake, roast and brown food as well as microwave it.
Can an AEG combination microwave replace an oven?
Selected AEG combination models provide conventional fan oven, grill and microwave functions and can therefore handle many tasks associated with a compact oven. Capacity and shelf space are smaller than a full-size single oven, so whether it can replace one depends on how you cook.
What is CombiQuick?
CombiQuick combines microwave energy with conventional oven heating. Compatible functions can reduce cooking time while still providing the browning, roasting or baking finish associated with conventional oven cooking.
What is AEG SteamSet?
SteamSet is an accessory supplied with selected AEG built-in microwaves that can be used for steam-based food preparation. It does not turn the appliance into a full steam oven.
Are all AEG combination microwaves Wi-Fi connected?
No. Connectivity varies by model. Selected MealAssist, ProAssist and connected 6000 models support AEG app functions, while other combination microwave ovens use local controls only.
Do AEG built-in microwaves need to be hardwired?
Not all of them. Selected dedicated microwaves use a standard UK moulded plug, while many compact combination microwave ovens require a hardwired electrical connection. Check the electrical specification for the individual model before installation.
What microwave capacity should I choose?
Smaller 17-litre models are useful for everyday reheating and defrosting, while larger dedicated microwaves provide more internal space. Combination microwave ovens use substantially larger oven-style cavities, making them more suitable for baking, grilling and roasting as well as microwave cooking.
