Integrated Dishwashers

Integrated dishwashers fit beneath the worktop and use a furniture door to match the surrounding kitchen. Choose carefully between fully integrated and semi-integrated controls, and check the appliance dimensions, furniture-door requirements and hinge arrangement before ordering.

Freestanding Dishwashers

Freestanding dishwashers have their own finished front and can be installed beneath a suitable worktop where water, waste and electrical connections are available. The current range includes full-size models plus selected slimline options.

Slimline Dishwashers

Slimline dishwashers are approximately 45cm wide rather than the usual 60cm class. They suit narrower kitchen spaces while still providing separate upper and lower loading areas. Both integrated and freestanding slimline models are available in the current range.

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Dishwashers

DishDrawer dishwashers open like a drawer rather than using a conventional drop-down door. Single, tall and double-drawer formats are available, with double models allowing the two drawers to be operated independently for different loads.

How to choose a dishwasher

Type Best suited to Check before buying
Integrated Fitted kitchens where the appliance should sit behind a furniture door Niche dimensions, furniture-door requirements, plinth clearance and hinge system
Freestanding Replacing an existing freestanding appliance or installing without a matching furniture front Overall width, depth, worktop clearance and connection positions
Slimline Narrower spaces where a standard-width dishwasher will not fit Approximately 45cm appliance width and reduced place-setting capacity compared with many full-size models
DishDrawer Flexible loading, easier access and kitchens suited to drawer-format installation Single, tall or double configuration and whether the model is panel-ready or has a finished front

Dishwasher size and capacity

Width is one of the first measurements to check. Full-size dishwashers are generally in the 60cm class, while slimline models are around 45cm wide. Measure the available opening rather than relying on the nominal size alone, particularly for integrated appliances where the furniture door, plinth and hinge arrangement also affect installation.

Capacity is shown in place settings. The current Appliance Superstore range covers smaller-capacity models through to larger dishwashers with up to 16 place settings. A larger capacity can be useful for family loads and cookware, while a slimline dishwasher is often the better choice when cabinet width is the limiting factor.

Noise levels and energy ratings

Compare the stated noise level if the dishwasher will sit in an open-plan kitchen or close to living space. Current models on this page cover a wide range of noise outputs, so use the dB filter rather than assuming that a premium or integrated model will automatically be quieter.

Dishwasher energy labels use the current A to G scale. Compare the energy class together with the manufacturer's stated energy and water consumption rather than choosing on the letter rating alone.

Drying, loading and detergent systems

Several current models use automatic door opening to release moisture towards the end of a programme. AEG calls its system AirDry, while Smeg uses Dry Assist+ on relevant models. The principle is straightforward: the door opens automatically to help moisture escape and improve drying.

AEG ComfortLift models raise the lower basket to a more convenient loading height. Miele models with AutoDos use automatic detergent dispensing, while selected connected Miele dishwashers add Miele@home controls. These features are model-specific, so compare the individual specification rather than assuming they apply across an entire brand.

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer models use one or two dishwasher drawers rather than a conventional drop-down door. Double DishDrawer models can run the drawers independently, allowing different cycles or smaller loads to be washed separately.

Integrated dishwasher installation

An integrated dishwasher needs more than the correct nominal width. Check the installation niche, appliance height and depth, furniture-door dimensions and weight, plinth clearance, hinge arrangement and the position of the water, waste and electrical connections. Panel-ready models do not normally include the matching kitchen furniture front.

Dishwasher FAQs

What is the difference between an integrated and freestanding dishwasher?

An integrated dishwasher is designed to sit within fitted cabinetry and normally uses a matching furniture door. A freestanding dishwasher has its own finished exterior and visible control area, so it does not require a kitchen furniture front.

What is a slimline dishwasher?

A slimline dishwasher is a narrower dishwasher in approximately the 45cm width class. It is useful where a standard 60cm-class appliance will not fit. Appliance Superstore currently sells both integrated and freestanding slimline models.

What do dishwasher place settings mean?

Place settings provide a standardised indication of dishwasher capacity. Higher numbers generally mean more room for plates, bowls, glasses and cutlery, although basket design and adjustability also affect how useful the internal space is for your own cookware.

How quiet should a dishwasher be?

Lower dB figures indicate quieter operation. Noise is particularly worth comparing in open-plan kitchens, and the current range can be filtered by stated noise level.

Do integrated dishwashers include the kitchen door?

Usually not. Fully integrated models are normally designed for a furniture panel supplied as part of the kitchen. Always check the manufacturer's panel dimensions, permitted panel weight and hinge requirements before installation.

What is a DishDrawer dishwasher?

A Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer opens as a drawer. Single and tall versions provide one wash drawer, while double models provide two independently operated drawers for flexible loading and separate wash cycles.
