Pyrolytic Ovens & Self-Cleaning Built-In Ovens
Shop pyrolytic ovens from AEG, Bosch, Bertazzoni, Fisher & Paykel, Kaiser, Miele, Neff, Siemens StudioLine, Smeg and more. A pyrolytic self-cleaning oven uses a dedicated high-temperature programme to break down baked-on grease and food residue into ash, which can be wiped away after the oven has cooled.
Our range is focused on built-in electric ovens, from conventional 60cm single ovens to selected double, 76cm and 90cm models. Compare capacity, cabinet dimensions, energy rating, smart connectivity, steam-assisted cooking, food probes and control systems as well as the cleaning programme itself.
How does a pyrolytic oven clean itself?
Pyrolytic cleaning raises the temperature inside the oven during a dedicated cleaning cycle so that grease and cooked-on food residue are broken down into a fine ash. Once the programme has finished and the oven has cooled, the remaining residue can normally be wiped away with a damp cloth.
The exact cleaning programme differs by manufacturer and model. Bosch and Neff, for example, offer selected ovens with both pyrolytic cleaning for heavier deposits and hydrolytic cleaning assistance for lighter routine maintenance. Miele uses Pyrolytic cleaning on applicable models and offers PyroFit accessories on selected ovens that are designed to tolerate the pyrolytic programme. Always check the individual model instructions before leaving shelves, runners or other accessories inside during a cleaning cycle.
Choosing the right pyrolytic oven
Check the oven size and cabinet dimensions
Most of the range consists of built-in ovens designed around a nominal 60cm width, but there are also wider models including selected 76cm and 90cm ovens. Do not rely on the nominal width alone. Check the appliance dimensions, required cabinet niche, ventilation clearances and door opening requirements before ordering.
Compare usable capacity, not just external size
Capacity varies substantially even between ovens with similar external dimensions. A larger cavity is useful for batch cooking, roasting and cooking on several levels, while a smaller cavity may be appropriate where specialist cooking technology or a particular installation layout is more important.
Decide whether you need steam-assisted cooking
Some pyrolytic ovens also add moisture during cooking. AEG SteamCrisp, Miele Moisture Plus, selected Bosch and Siemens added-steam ovens and Smeg SteamOne models combine conventional oven heat with controlled moisture. This is different from the pyrolytic cleaning cycle: steam is used during cooking, while pyrolysis is the high-temperature cleaning programme.
Check smart controls before paying more for them
Connected models can add remote monitoring, programme guidance and app-based controls. Examples within the current range include Miele@home, Bosch and Neff Home Connect, Siemens Home Connect, AEG connected cooking and Fisher & Paykel SmartHQ. Connectivity varies by model, so it should be treated as a comparison feature rather than assumed across a whole brand.
Check the electrical requirements
A built-in pyrolytic oven should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Many models require a fixed electrical connection and a suitably rated circuit rather than a standard plug, but the exact connected load and fuse requirement varies. Check the product specification and installation documentation before purchase, particularly when replacing an older oven.
Pyrolytic Oven FAQs
What is a pyrolytic oven?
A pyrolytic oven is a self-cleaning oven with a dedicated programme that heats the cavity to a very high temperature, breaking down grease and food residue into ash. Once the cycle has finished and the appliance is cool, the ash can normally be wiped away.
Is pyrolytic cleaning better than steam cleaning?
They perform different jobs. Pyrolytic cleaning is designed to tackle heavier baked-on grease by using very high temperatures. Hydrolytic or steam-assisted cleaning uses moisture to soften lighter deposits and generally still requires manual wiping. Some ovens provide both systems.
Can I leave oven shelves inside during pyrolytic cleaning?
Only where the manufacturer specifically states that the shelves, runners or accessories are suitable for the pyrolytic programme. Some models include pyrolysis-safe accessories, while others require them to be removed before cleaning.
Can a steam oven also have pyrolytic cleaning?
Yes. Selected combi-steam or steam-assisted built-in ovens also include pyrolytic cleaning. The steam function is used for cooking, while the pyrolytic programme is used to clean the oven cavity.
Are all pyrolytic ovens smart ovens?
No. Wi-Fi and app connectivity are separate features. The current range includes both connected and non-connected pyrolytic ovens, so check the individual specification if remote monitoring or app control is important.
Do pyrolytic ovens need special installation?
The cleaning system itself does not create a separate category of installation, but built-in ovens must be installed to the manufacturer's cabinet, ventilation and electrical requirements. Check the niche dimensions, connected load, fuse requirement and whether the appliance needs to be hard-wired. Connections typically need to be a minimum 32A fuse but all final details should be checked with a qualified electrician if creating a new electrical connection.
