Smeg Hobs – Gas, Induction, Ceramic & Vented Hobs

Shop Smeg hobs for built-in kitchens, including gas, induction, ceramic, mixed-fuel, vented induction and compact domino models. Compare hob width, cooking zones, worktop installation, controls and power requirements, with options ranging from compact 30cm modules to wider 90cm cooking surfaces.

Choose your Smeg hob type

The best Smeg hob depends first on how you want to cook and the services available in your kitchen. Smeg offers gas, induction and ceramic hobs alongside mixed gas-and-induction models, specialist domino modules and induction hobs with integrated extraction.

Hob type Key difference Check before buying
Induction Heats compatible pans directly for fast, responsive electric cooking Cookware compatibility, electrical supply, width and flexible cooking zones
Gas Provides visible flame control using individual burners Gas supply, burner layout, worktop cut-out and installation requirements
Ceramic Uses electric heating elements beneath a smooth glass cooking surface Zone layout, controls, electrical supply and worktop dimensions
Mixed fuel Combines gas burners and induction zones in one hob Both gas and suitable electrical connections
Vented induction Combines induction cooking with an integrated extractor Cabinet space, ducting or recirculation setup, filters and electrical supply
Domino Compact modules that can be used alone or combined to create a bespoke cooking area Module width, worktop cut-outs and the services required by each module

Smeg induction hobs

Smeg induction hobs use magnetic induction to transfer energy directly into compatible cookware. This provides quick heat response while leaving the glass surface straightforward to wipe down after cooking. Induction cookware needs a suitable magnetic base, so check existing pans before changing from gas or ceramic cooking.

Selected Smeg induction hobs include MultiZone. This allows neighbouring induction zones to operate separately or combine into a larger cooking area for larger pans, griddles or cookware that does not fit comfortably on one conventional zone.

Some models also use automatic pan detection and power-management functions. These features vary by model, so compare the individual specification rather than assuming that every Smeg induction hob has the same flexible-zone or control system.

Smeg gas hobs

Smeg gas hobs are available in different widths, burner layouts and surface finishes. Many use cast-iron pan supports, while Smeg fits gas safety valves that stop the gas supply if a burner flame is accidentally extinguished.

When choosing a gas hob, compare the position and output of the burners as well as the total number. Selected Smeg models use higher-output rapid or ultra-rapid burners for larger pans and high-heat cooking.

Gas installation must suit the property's gas supply and should be completed by an appropriately qualified installer. Always check the exact worktop cut-out and installation drawing for the selected model.

Smeg ceramic hobs

Smeg ceramic hobs provide an electric alternative to induction using heating elements beneath a smooth glass surface. Unlike induction, they do not require magnetic cookware, although the cooking surface itself becomes hot during use.

Current Smeg ceramic formats include different widths and zone layouts, so compare the number and size of cooking zones alongside the overall hob and cut-out dimensions.

Smeg mixed-fuel hobs

Mixed-fuel Smeg hobs combine gas and induction on the same cooking surface. They are useful where you want visible flame control for some cooking tasks but also want the speed and flat glass surface of induction.

Because both technologies are built into one hob, check that the kitchen can provide the appropriate gas connection and electrical supply before ordering.

Smeg vented induction hobs

A Smeg vented induction hob combines induction cooking and extraction in one appliance. Vapour and cooking odours are drawn into an extractor built into the hob rather than relying on a separate hood above the cooking area.

This can suit islands and kitchens where an overhead extractor is undesirable, but installation requires more planning than a standard induction hob. Check the space required beneath the worktop, the proposed air route, filter access and whether the exact model is configured for external ducting, recirculation or both.

Extraction specifications such as energy class and operating noise apply to the extractor section of a vented hob and should be shown separately from ordinary hob specifications.

What is Smeg Auto-Vent?

Auto-Vent 2.0 is Smeg's connection between selected induction hobs and compatible Smeg cooker hoods. The appliances communicate so that the hood can adjust extraction automatically according to the cooking activity at the hob.

This should not be confused with full app-controlled or Wi-Fi-connected appliance functionality. If hood connectivity is important, check that both the selected hob and extractor support the compatible Auto-Vent system.

Smeg hob sizes

Smeg hobs are available across compact and full-width formats. A nominal 60cm hob is a common choice for standard kitchen layouts, while wider 70cm, 75cm, 80cm and 90cm models can provide additional zones or more space between pans. Compact 30cm domino modules can be used where space is limited or as part of a modular cooking arrangement.

Do not replace a hob based on nominal width alone. Measure the existing worktop opening and compare it with the manufacturer's cut-out dimensions. Two hobs described as 60cm wide can require different openings beneath the glass or steel surface.

Surface-mounted and flush-fit Smeg hobs

Smeg uses several installation styles across its hob range. Traditional surface-mounted models sit above the worktop, while selected ultra-low-profile hobs can sit very close to the worktop surface and some models can be installed flush where the worktop material and installation instructions allow it.

Flush installation normally requires more precise fabrication than a standard top-mounted cut-out. Confirm the installation drawing before the worktop is manufactured.

Choosing the number of cooking zones

Four-zone hobs cover many everyday kitchens, while five- and six-zone models give more room when several pans are used together. Wider gas hobs can also provide additional burner spacing. A flexible induction area can sometimes be more useful than simply adding another fixed cooking zone, particularly when using larger pans.

Electrical requirements for Smeg induction hobs

Induction hobs can have a substantial electrical load and should not be assumed to operate from a standard plug socket. Some Smeg models provide power-management settings, but the available supply, cable, circuit protection and connection method still need to meet the requirements stated for the exact appliance.

Have the electrical requirements checked before ordering, particularly when replacing a gas or lower-powered electric hob with induction.

Smeg hob FAQs

Does Smeg make induction and gas hobs?

Yes. Smeg produces induction, gas and ceramic hobs as well as mixed gas-and-induction models, domino modules and induction hobs with integrated extraction.

Do Smeg induction hobs need special pans?

Induction cooking requires cookware with a magnetic base. A magnet attaching firmly to the base is a useful initial check, although the cookware manufacturer's guidance should also be followed.

What is MultiZone on a Smeg hob?

MultiZone allows compatible adjacent induction zones to operate independently or combine into a larger cooking area. It is useful for larger cookware, but the number and layout of flexible zones varies by hob.

What is a Smeg vented hob?

A vented Smeg hob combines induction cooking with an extractor built into the hob. Depending on the model and installation, extracted air may be ducted outside or filtered for recirculation. Check the exact installation components before the kitchen cabinetry is finalised.

Can a Smeg hob control a cooker hood?

Selected Smeg induction hobs support Auto-Vent, which communicates with a compatible Smeg extractor so that extraction can adjust automatically while cooking. Compatibility must be checked for both appliances.

Are Smeg gas hobs fitted with flame-failure protection?

Smeg states that its gas hobs use safety valves which stop the gas flow if a burner flame is accidentally extinguished.

Can I replace a 60cm hob with another 60cm hob without changing the worktop?

Not necessarily. Nominal appliance width does not guarantee the same worktop cut-out. Check the exact cut-out dimensions, depth, clearances and installation method for the replacement hob before ordering.

Should I choose a standard induction hob or a vented induction hob?

Choose a standard induction hob where extraction is already handled by a suitable cooker hood. A vented induction hob can remove the need for an overhead hood, but requires suitable space below the worktop and careful planning for ducting or recirculation and filter maintenance.
