Smeg Fridges

Smeg fridges range from compact and under-counter refrigeration to tall larder models and the distinctive freestanding 50's Style FAB range. Check total chilled capacity, external dimensions and door opening as well as colour, particularly where a freestanding refrigerator will sit close to a wall or adjoining cabinet.

Smeg Fridge Freezers

Smeg fridge freezers combine chilled and frozen storage in one appliance. The range includes integrated models for fitted kitchens and freestanding designs in different capacities and proportions. Compare the fridge-to-freezer storage split, overall dimensions, frost-free operation and door configuration rather than choosing on external width alone.

Smeg Freezers

Dedicated Smeg freezers provide additional frozen-food capacity where a fridge freezer is not sufficient. Depending on the model, options include built-in, built-under and freestanding installations. Check usable capacity, defrost system, cabinet dimensions and whether the door is reversible before ordering.

Smeg Wine Coolers

Smeg wine coolers are available in built-in, under-counter and freestanding formats. Compare bottle capacity, the number of independently controlled temperature zones, installation height, ventilation requirements and hinge position. Selected models also support connected controls, so check the individual specification where app connectivity is important.

Choosing the Right Smeg Cooling Appliance

Built-In or Freestanding?

Decide on the installation type before comparing styling or features. Freestanding Smeg refrigeration is designed to remain visible and includes many of the brand's 50's Style refrigerators and fridge freezers. Built-in models fit within kitchen cabinetry and require the correct cabinet niche, ventilation and furniture-door arrangement.

For integrated refrigeration, check the manufacturer's technical drawing carefully. Appliance height and width alone are not enough: the cabinet opening, hinge system, ventilation space and furniture-door dimensions must also be compatible.

Check Dimensions and Door Clearance

Measure the intended appliance space as well as the delivery route into the kitchen. With freestanding refrigerators, allow enough room for the doors to open far enough for shelves and internal drawers to be removed. Fixed left- and right-hand hinge versions are available within parts of the Smeg range, while selected built-in models use reversible doors.

Compare Capacity, Not Just External Size

Cooling appliances with similar external dimensions can divide their internal space differently. Compare total usable capacity and, for fridge freezers, the separate chilled and frozen volumes. A household that stores mainly fresh food may favour a larger refrigerator compartment, while regular batch cooking can make additional freezer capacity more useful.

No Frost and Automatic Defrosting

Selected Smeg freezers and fridge freezers use No Frost technology to prevent ice building up in the freezer, reducing or removing the need for manual defrosting. Other models use different cooling and defrost systems, so check the specification of the individual appliance rather than assuming every Smeg model is frost free.

Smeg MultiFlow Cooling

MultiFlow is fitted to selected Smeg refrigerators and fridge freezers. It circulates cold air around the refrigerator compartment to support more even temperature distribution across the storage area. Availability varies by model.

Life Plus 0°C Storage

Selected Smeg refrigerators include a Life Plus 0°C compartment. This is a controlled low-temperature storage area intended for foods such as meat, fish and cheese that can benefit from colder conditions than the main refrigerator compartment.

Energy Class and Noise

Compare the current A to G energy rating and annual energy consumption when choosing between similar appliances. Noise is also worth considering where refrigeration will be installed in an open-plan kitchen or kitchen-living area. Compare the stated dB figure on individual models rather than treating all appliances within the same range as equivalent.

Choosing an Integrated Smeg Refrigerator

Integrated cooling requires more installation checks than a freestanding appliance. Confirm the niche height and width, door-hinge system, ventilation requirements and whether the appliance door is reversible. A sliding-hinge refrigerator must not be treated as interchangeable with a fixed-hinge model without confirming the kitchen furniture arrangement.

Choosing a Smeg Wine Cooler

For wine storage, start with installation format and bottle capacity, then compare the number of temperature zones. Separate temperature zones can be useful where different sections need different settings. Also check shelf configuration, door clearance, ventilation and whether connectivity is included on the chosen model.

Smeg Cooling FAQs

What types of Smeg cooling appliances are available?

Smeg cooling includes refrigerators, fridge freezers, dedicated freezers and wine coolers across built-in and freestanding installations. The most suitable type depends on the amount of chilled and frozen storage required and whether the appliance will be visible or fitted behind kitchen furniture.

Are all Smeg fridge freezers frost free?

No. Cooling and defrost systems vary by model. Selected Smeg fridge freezers use Total No Frost or other frost-prevention systems, but the individual product specification should be checked before ordering.

What is Smeg MultiFlow?

MultiFlow circulates cold air through the refrigerator compartment to support more even temperature distribution. It is available on selected Smeg refrigerators and fridge freezers rather than every cooling appliance.

What is the Smeg Life Plus 0°C compartment?

Life Plus 0°C is a low-temperature storage compartment available on selected Smeg refrigerators. It is intended for perishable foods such as meat, fish and cheese that can benefit from colder controlled conditions.

Can Smeg integrated fridges use different furniture-door hinges?

Yes. Hinge arrangements vary between models. Some integrated appliances use sliding hinges while others use different furniture-door systems. Always match the appliance's specified hinge arrangement and cabinet dimensions to the kitchen furniture before purchase.

Are Smeg refrigerator doors reversible?

Some are, but not all. Certain freestanding 50's Style models are manufactured as dedicated left- or right-hand-hinge versions, while selected integrated and freestanding Universal models have reversible doors. Check the exact model specification.

Are Smeg wine coolers smart appliances?

Selected Smeg wine coolers support SmegConnect, but connectivity is model-specific. Check the individual wine cooler specification if remote monitoring or connected controls are required.
