Vented Gas Hobs – Gas Hobs with Built-In Extraction

Shop vented gas hobs that combine open-flame cooking with extraction built directly into the cooking surface. Compare exact dimensions, burner layout, ducted or recirculating installation, airflow, noise, filtration and gas requirements before planning the hob and surrounding cabinetry.

Gas cooking with integrated extraction

A vented gas hob combines conventional gas burners with a downdraft extractor positioned within the cooking surface. Steam, grease and cooking odours are captured close to the pans, reducing the need for a separate overhead cooker hood.

This format can be useful on kitchen islands or where an overhead extractor would interrupt sightlines, but it requires additional space below the worktop for the extraction system and airflow route.

Elica NikolaTesla Flame

The current vented gas hobs in this range use Elica's NikolaTesla Flame platform. The 88cm glass cooking surface combines four gas burners with central integrated extraction and cast-iron pan supports.

Feature Current specification
Width 880mm
Worktop cut-out 840 × 487mm
Gas burners Four
Largest burner 3.5kW dual-zone burner
Maximum ducted airflow 600m³/h in Boost
Ducted noise range 45–63dB(A)
Recirculating noise range 49–69dB(A)
Extractor energy class A

Four gas burners

The NikolaTesla Flame cooking surface uses four burners rather than five. These comprise two semi-rapid burners, one rapid burner and one 3.5kW dual-zone burner.

The dual-zone burner uses concentric flame areas so it can accommodate different pan sizes and higher-output cooking. Continuous cast-iron supports provide a stable surface and allow cookware to be moved between burners without lifting it completely from the hob.

Ducted or recirculating extraction

Ducted installation

In ducted configuration, cooking vapours are carried outside through suitable extraction ducting. The duct route should be planned before the kitchen cabinets and worktop are finalised because length, bends and restrictions can affect extraction performance.

Recirculating installation

For kitchens where external ducting is impractical, the hob can also be configured for recirculation using the appropriate Elica filtration system. Air passes through grease and odour filtration before being returned to the room.

Check which filters and installation components are supplied with the exact product and which need to be ordered separately.

Extraction performance and noise

Extractor performance changes according to the selected setting and installation mode. Maximum ducted airflow reaches 600m³/h in Boost, while filtering performance is specified separately.

Noise should also be compared on an equivalent basis. Ducted operation and recirculating operation have different manufacturer-stated sound ranges, so a single dB figure does not describe every operating condition.

Filters and maintenance

The extraction system uses removable filtration components to capture grease and odours. Recirculating installations require suitable odour filtration as well as grease filtration.

Clean and maintain the filters according to Elica's instructions to preserve extraction performance. Replacement or regenerable filter requirements depend on the installation configuration.

Installation requirements

The hob measures 880mm wide, 510mm deep and 210mm high, with a manufacturer-specified worktop cut-out of 840 × 487mm.

Because the extractor sits below the cooking surface, the cabinetry must provide adequate room for the ventilation components and ducting or recirculating airflow path. Check drawer and oven positioning before the worktop is cut.

The appliance also requires both a suitable gas connection and an electrical supply for the extraction system. Gas installation or conversion should be carried out by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe engineer.

Black or grey glass?

The current Appliance Superstore range includes black-glass and grey-glass versions of the same NikolaTesla Flame cooking and extraction platform. Choose the finish to coordinate with surrounding appliances and worktops rather than expecting a major difference in cooking configuration.

Vented gas hob FAQs

What is a vented gas hob?

A vented gas hob combines conventional gas burners with extraction built into the cooking surface, drawing vapour and cooking odours down instead of relying on a separate overhead cooker hood.

How many burners does the Elica NikolaTesla Flame have?

It has four gas burners: two semi-rapid burners, one rapid burner and one dual-zone burner.

How wide is the Elica NikolaTesla Flame?

The appliance is 880mm wide, with a manufacturer-specified worktop cut-out of 840 × 487mm.

Can a vented gas hob recirculate?

Yes. The current NikolaTesla Flame can be configured for ducted extraction or filtering recirculation using the appropriate installation components and filters.

How powerful is the extractor?

The current manufacturer specification gives a maximum duct-out Boost airflow of 600m³/h. Filtering airflow is specified separately because recirculating performance differs from ducted extraction.

Is the Elica NikolaTesla Flame a five-burner hob?

No. The current manufacturer specification identifies four gas burners. The dual-zone burner contains concentric flame areas but should not be counted as two separate burners.

Does a vented gas hob need electricity?

Yes. Although the cooking surface uses gas, the integrated extraction system and appliance controls require an electrical supply.

Does the hob need an overhead cooker hood?

No. Extraction is integrated within the hob itself, provided the appliance is installed correctly in either ducted or recirculating configuration.

What warranty is available?

Elica currently offers a five-year warranty on eligible NikolaTesla extractor hobs when the product is registered within 90 days of purchase, subject to Elica's warranty terms.
