Choosing Fisher & Paykel laundry appliances
Start with the appliance function and the space available. The current Fisher & Paykel laundry range is freestanding and approximately 60cm wide, but depth and door clearance differ between washing machines, tumble dryers and the much taller Fabric Care Cabinet.
| Appliance | Main use | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Front-load washing machine | Washing everyday, bulky and specialist fabrics | Washing capacity, spin speed, detergent system, water connections, programmes and dimensions |
| Heat-pump tumble dryer | Low-temperature tumble drying without an external hot-air vent | Drying capacity, moisture sensing, fabric programmes, drainage, controls and stacking compatibility |
| Fabric Care Cabinet | Refreshing, drying and caring for hanging or delicate garments with minimal mechanical movement | Overall height, door clearance, garment capacity, water-tank access and treatment programmes |
Fisher & Paykel washing machines
The current Fisher & Paykel front-load washing machines offer a 12kg drum and maximum 1400rpm spin speed. This larger capacity can be useful for family laundry, bedding and other bulky loads, but the physical appliance depth should be checked carefully before installation.
Current models use automatic sensing to respond to characteristics of the load. Depending on the model, detergent handling also differs: selected machines use automatic liquid detergent dispensing, while higher-specification models use interchangeable cartridge-based dosing designed to support different detergents and fabric-care routines.
FlexiDose and ModDose
Fisher & Paykel uses different detergent systems across its washing-machine range. FlexiDose provides automatic detergent and fabric-softener dosing on selected models. ModDose uses interchangeable cartridges so different detergent types can be selected for specialist fabric care.
These systems are model specific, so detergent compatibility and cartridge requirements should be checked before purchase rather than assuming every Fisher & Paykel washer uses the same dosing method.
ActiveIntelligence and fabric sensing
Selected current washing machines use ActiveIntelligence sensing to respond to factors such as load size and soil level, with higher-specification models also detecting colour. This information is used to adjust the wash rather than requiring the same settings for every load.
Fisher & Paykel heat pump tumble dryers
Current Fisher & Paykel tumble dryers use heat-pump technology and a 9kg drum. Heat-pump dryers recirculate warm air and dry at lower controlled temperatures than traditional vented dryers, so they do not require an external hot-air vent.
Moisture sensing adjusts drying according to the load. Fisher & Paykel's current 3D Active Sense system is designed to detect moisture deeper within garments and bulky items rather than relying only on surface moisture.
TangleProtect and reverse tumbling
Selected dryers alter drum movement to help reduce tangling, creasing and uneven drying. Feature combinations vary between Series 9 and Series 11, so compare the individual appliance where reverse tumbling or a particular garment programme is important.
Display-free Series 11 dryer
One current Fisher & Paykel Series 11 heat-pump dryer uses a display-free design. Unlike an ordinary tumble dryer with its own full user interface, it is designed to be controlled through a compatible Fisher & Paykel front-load washing machine.
This is an important compatibility requirement rather than merely a styling difference. Check the specified washer-and-dryer combination before ordering a display-free dryer as a standalone replacement.
Fisher & Paykel Fabric Care Cabinet
The Fabric Care Cabinet is not a conventional tumble dryer. Garments are placed on hangers, rails or racks and treated with controlled airflow, heat and steam rather than being continuously tumbled in a drum.
Current functions include Refresh, Dry, Deodorise and Sanitise. This format can be useful for delicate garments, outerwear, shoes and specialist materials that benefit from lower mechanical movement.
The cabinet is approximately 190cm high, so installation requirements are very different from a standard washing machine or dryer. Check the full cavity dimensions, door-opening clearance and surrounding space before ordering.
SmartHQ connected laundry
Current Fisher & Paykel laundry appliances in this range support SmartHQ connectivity. Depending on the appliance, connected functions can include alerts, programme monitoring, guidance, remote operation and software updates.
Smart connectivity does not replace physical compatibility checks. A connected washer and dryer still need suitable electrical, water, drainage and stacking arrangements.
Can Fisher & Paykel washing machines and dryers be stacked?
Selected Fisher & Paykel washers and dryers are designed to work as coordinated laundry pairs and may support stacked installation using the manufacturer's approved arrangement and accessories.
Do not assume that matching width alone makes two appliances stack-compatible. Check the model combination and approved stacking components before installation, particularly where a display-free dryer relies on a specific compatible washing machine for control.
Capacity: 12kg washing and 9kg drying
The current washing machines have a larger rated capacity than the tumble dryers. A 12kg wash load therefore cannot automatically be transferred as one full 12kg drying load into a 9kg dryer.
Programme limits can also be lower than the appliance's headline drum capacity for delicate, wool, steam or specialist fibre programmes. Follow the stated programme load limits for the selected appliance.
Energy ratings and consumption
Washing machines and tumble dryers should not be compared purely by the letter shown in a mixed laundry filter. Washing-machine energy labels use the current A to G scale, while Great Britain currently has transitional tumble-dryer labelling arrangements under which different permitted label formats can appear.
Compare energy information within the same appliance type and check the product's current energy label and product information sheet. Do not treat an A washing-machine rating and an A+++ tumble-dryer rating as positions on one directly comparable scale.
Noise ratings
Washing-machine energy labels normally state airborne noise for the spin phase. Tumble-dryer noise is a different operating measurement, so the values should not be combined indiscriminately in a single category-wide noise filter.
Where noise matters, compare like-for-like figures for the individual appliance type and check the stated measurement basis.
Installation and connections
Current Fisher & Paykel washing machines require water inlet, drainage and electrical connections. Selected models support both hot and cold water supplies, so the installation specification should be checked against the available plumbing.
Heat-pump tumble dryers do not require an external hot-air vent, but condensate still needs to be collected or drained in accordance with the individual installation instructions. Check appliance depth, door-opening clearance and any stacking requirements.
The Fabric Care Cabinet uses a removable water tank and does not require external venting, but its tall format requires substantially more vertical and door-opening clearance than conventional laundry appliances.
Warranty
Fisher & Paykel currently provides a five-year manufacturer's warranty covering parts and labour on UK appliances, subject to its warranty terms. Washing machines with the applicable direct-drive motor also receive additional parts-only motor cover after the standard appliance warranty period.
The additional motor warranty should not be interpreted as ten years of full parts-and-labour cover for the complete washing machine.
Fisher & Paykel laundry FAQs
What Fisher & Paykel laundry appliances are available?
The current range includes freestanding front-load washing machines, heat-pump tumble dryers and a specialist Fabric Care Cabinet. There is not currently a Fisher & Paykel washer-dryer in this Appliance Superstore category.
How large are Fisher & Paykel washing machines?
The current models have a 12kg rated washing capacity and a maximum spin speed of 1400rpm. Check the programme-specific load limit because delicate and specialist programmes may accept less than the headline capacity.
Do Fisher & Paykel tumble dryers need an outside vent?
No. The current models use heat-pump technology, which condenses moisture within the appliance instead of exhausting hot damp air through an external vent hose.
What is Fisher & Paykel 3D Active Sense?
3D Active Sense is a moisture-sensing system used on current heat-pump dryers to detect moisture within the load and help adjust drying, including for larger or bulky items.
What is the Fisher & Paykel Fabric Care Cabinet?
It is a tall garment-care appliance that uses controlled airflow, steam and heat-pump drying to refresh, dry, deodorise and sanitise suitable clothes without conventional tumble action.
Does the Fabric Care Cabinet replace a tumble dryer?
Not for most households. It is designed for specialist garment care and hanging items rather than conventional drum drying of a normal full laundry load. It is better considered as an additional fabric-care appliance.
Are Fisher & Paykel laundry appliances smart?
The current appliances in this range support SmartHQ connectivity for functions such as alerts, monitoring, guidance, selected remote controls and software updates.
Can I use the display-free dryer on its own?
The current display-free Series 11 dryer is designed to be controlled through its specified compatible Fisher & Paykel front-loader washing machine. Confirm the exact compatible pair before ordering.
Can I put a 12kg wash straight into a 9kg dryer?
Not as a full load. The tumble dryer has a lower rated capacity, so a maximum 12kg washing-machine load would need to be divided or reduced before drying.
How long is the Fisher & Paykel UK warranty?
Fisher & Paykel currently provides a five-year manufacturer's parts-and-labour warranty on UK appliances, subject to its terms. Applicable washing-machine direct-drive motors receive further parts-only cover.
