How to Choose a Bosch Cooker Hood

The most important consideration is installation. A cooker hood needs to suit the position of the hob, the available cabinet, wall or ceiling space and the route available for ventilation. Bosch recommends choosing a hood that is at least as wide as the hob below it, but the exact appliance and installation dimensions should always be checked before ordering.

What Size Bosch Cooker Hood Do You Need?

Match the hood to the width of the cooking area rather than choosing on appearance alone. As a general rule, Bosch recommends a cooker hood that is at least as wide as the hob. A 60cm hob therefore normally requires a 60cm or wider hood, while wider 80cm and 90cm cooking areas should be paired with appropriately sized extraction.

Nominal width is only part of the installation. Check the exact appliance width and depth, required cabinet or ceiling opening, minimum distance from the cooking surface and any chimney or ducting dimensions shown in the installation instructions.

Ducted Extraction or Recirculation?

Many Bosch cooker hoods can be configured for either ducted extraction or recirculation, but this varies by model and may require additional accessories.

With ducted extraction, cooking air passes through the grease filters and is discharged outside through suitable ducting. This also removes moisture from the kitchen and is generally the preferred arrangement where a practical external ventilation route is available.

With recirculation, the air passes through grease and odour filtration before being returned to the room. The appropriate Bosch odour filter or recirculation kit is normally required, so check compatibility with the individual hood rather than assuming one kit fits every model.

Compare Extraction Rate and Noise

Extraction performance is normally expressed in cubic metres per hour. Higher airflow can be useful when dealing with heavy steam or strong cooking odours, particularly in larger or open-plan kitchens, but maximum airflow should not be considered on its own.

Also compare the stated noise level at the normal fan settings you are likely to use every day. Intensive or boost modes are designed for shorter periods of heavier extraction and will normally operate more loudly than the standard settings.

Bosch Smart Cooker Hoods and Hob Control

Selected Bosch cooker hoods include Home Connect. This connects compatible appliances to Bosch's app for functions such as remote monitoring and control, although the exact options depend on the individual model.

Selected connected hoods also support cooktop-based hood control or Smart Hood Automatic. With a compatible Bosch hob, the hood can be controlled from the hob and, on suitable combinations, the extraction level can respond automatically to cooking information from the hob.

Do not assume that every Bosch cooker hood is smart. Check the individual appliance specification if Home Connect or automatic hob-to-hood control is important to you.

Cleaning and Maintaining a Bosch Cooker Hood

Grease filters collect airborne grease before it reaches the motor and ductwork. Many Bosch cooker hoods use removable washable metal filters, but the cleaning method and interval should be checked in the appliance instructions.

Recirculating installations also use an odour filter. These filters have a separate maintenance or replacement schedule, and the correct replacement depends on the specific hood and recirculation system fitted.
