How to choose a Fisher & Paykel hob
Start with cooking technology and the space available in the worktop. Standard induction hobs provide fast electric cooking, gas gives direct flame control, while vented induction combines cooking and extraction where an overhead cooker hood is undesirable.
Fisher & Paykel also offers a modular cooking system. Selected primary induction hobs provide the central controls, while compatible auxiliary induction and Teppanyaki modules can be positioned alongside them to build a wider cooking area around the way you cook.
| Hob type | Useful for | Important checks |
|---|---|---|
| Induction | Fast, responsive electric cooking and easy-clean glass | Width, zones, SmartZone functions, electrical load, cookware compatibility and cut-out |
| Gas | Direct flame control and specialist wok cooking | Natural gas or LPG version, burner layout, gas connection and worktop cut-out |
| Vented induction | Combining induction cooking and extraction without an overhead hood | Ducted or recirculating configuration, cabinet space, filters, airflow and electrical connection |
| Modular induction | Creating a tailored cooking layout with separate modules | Primary versus auxiliary model, module compatibility, worktop planning and electrical requirements |
| Teppanyaki | Cooking directly on a heated stainless-steel surface | Primary-hob compatibility, worktop cut-out and electrical supply |
Fisher & Paykel induction hobs
Induction transfers energy directly into compatible magnetic cookware, giving rapid heat response while the surrounding glass remains relatively cool. Fisher & Paykel induction hobs range from compact two-zone designs to wider four- and five-zone models and full-surface induction.
When choosing a replacement, compare exact dimensions rather than nominal width alone. Current models include 30cm, 39cm, 60cm, 76cm, 80cm, 83cm, 90cm and 92cm formats, but individual cut-out and clearance requirements differ.
What is Fisher & Paykel SmartZone?
SmartZone allows neighbouring induction zones to be linked and controlled as one larger cooking area. This makes it easier to use griddles, fish pans and other cookware that does not fit comfortably within a conventional single zone.
The number of SmartZones differs between models. Selected 60cm models provide two linked cooking areas, while compact 30cm designs can link their two zones into one larger SmartZone.
Fisher & Paykel modular hobs
Primary modular hobs
Selected Fisher & Paykel Series 9 and Series 11 induction hobs act as primary modules. Their touchscreen controls can operate their own induction zones and coordinate compatible auxiliary cooking and ventilation modules within the same modular system.
Primary models can also be installed as standalone induction hobs, depending on the individual model.
Auxiliary induction hobs
Auxiliary 30cm and 39cm induction modules are designed to pair with a compatible primary modular hob. They add extra induction cooking space without duplicating the primary touchscreen controls.
Because these products form part of a coordinated system, confirm compatibility before ordering rather than treating every compact Fisher & Paykel induction hob as interchangeable.
Auxiliary Teppanyaki hobs
Fisher & Paykel Teppanyaki modules provide a flat stainless-steel cooking surface for grilling, frying and sautéing directly on the appliance rather than in conventional cookware.
These auxiliary modules are designed to form part of the Fisher & Paykel modular cooking system and should be planned with the appropriate primary hob and worktop cut-outs.
Full-surface induction
Selected Fisher & Paykel full-surface induction hobs do not rely on a conventional fixed four- or five-zone layout. The current 92cm full-surface model allows several pieces of cookware to be positioned across one large cooking surface, with the touchscreen detecting and displaying pan positions.
This format should be compared by maximum simultaneous cookware positions and usable surface rather than treated as a conventional one-zone hob simply because the technical specification describes the cooking surface as one zone.
Fisher & Paykel gas hobs
Current Fisher & Paykel gas hobs include compact single-burner designs, 60cm three- and four-burner models and wider 90cm three- and five-burner options.
Selected models include high-output wok burners, cast-iron pan supports and flame-failure protection. Burner arrangement is just as important as the headline burner count, particularly when using several large pans simultaneously.
Natural gas or LPG?
Fisher & Paykel sells separate natural-gas and LPG versions of several current gas hobs. Natural-gas models connect to a suitable mains gas supply, while LPG versions are designed for the specified bottled-gas installation.
Do not order solely by finish and burner layout. Check the exact NG or LPG model code because the fuel versions are separate products.
Fisher & Paykel vented induction hobs
A vented induction hob combines induction cooking with extraction built into the centre of the cooking surface. This can remove the need for a conventional cooker hood above the hob and is particularly useful for islands and open kitchen layouts.
The current 83cm Fisher & Paykel models provide four induction zones, SmartZone flexibility and nine extraction speeds plus Boost. Separate ducted and recirculating versions are available, so the correct model needs to be selected during kitchen planning.
Ducted or recirculating?
A ducted model carries cooking vapour outside the property through suitable ducting. A recirculating model filters the extracted air and returns it to the kitchen through the planned outlet system.
These configurations have different ducting, filter and cabinet requirements. Check the exact model's planning guide before cabinetry, drawers or worktops are finalised.
Flush or surface-mounted installation
Many current Fisher & Paykel induction models support either flush or raised installation. Flush mounting creates a more continuous transition between the worktop and hob, but requires suitable worktop material and more precise preparation.
Gas and older hob designs may have different installation requirements. Always use the installation guide for the exact model rather than assuming that all Fisher & Paykel hobs can be fitted in the same way.
SmartHQ and Link Mode
Selected current Fisher & Paykel induction hobs support SmartHQ connectivity. Functions vary by model and can include guided setup, operating information and cooking notifications.
Link Mode is used on compatible models to coordinate the hob with a compatible Fisher & Paykel cooker hood so that extraction can respond automatically when cooking begins. Not every induction hob has the same connected features, so Smart Appliance and Link Mode should be checked separately.
Electrical and gas installation
Induction hobs can have substantial electrical loads and normally require fixed electrical installation. Maximum connected load differs by model, so check the manufacturer's electrical specification before replacing an existing hob.
Gas appliances require an appropriate gas supply and installation in accordance with the exact natural-gas or LPG specification. Both electrical and gas installation should be carried out by appropriately qualified professionals.
Fisher & Paykel hob FAQs
What types of Fisher & Paykel hob are available?
The current range includes standard induction hobs, natural-gas and LPG gas hobs, modular induction and Teppanyaki cooking surfaces, full-surface induction and induction hobs with integrated extraction.
What is SmartZone on a Fisher & Paykel hob?
SmartZone links compatible neighbouring induction zones so they operate as one larger cooking area for wider cookware such as griddles and fish pans.
What is the difference between a primary and auxiliary Fisher & Paykel hob?
A primary modular hob provides the main touchscreen control interface and its own cooking zones. Auxiliary modules are designed to extend the modular cooking system and pair with a compatible primary hob.
Can Fisher & Paykel modular hobs be installed separately?
Selected primary modular induction hobs can operate as standalone hobs. Auxiliary induction and Teppanyaki modules are designed to work as part of the compatible modular system, so check the individual model before planning a standalone installation.
What is a full-surface induction hob?
A full-surface induction hob provides a large flexible cooking surface instead of a conventional fixed set of circular zones. Compatible cookware can be positioned more freely and the hob detects its position on the surface.
Does Fisher & Paykel make gas hobs for LPG?
Yes. Several current gas-hob designs are offered in separate natural-gas and LPG versions. Order the exact fuel-specific model rather than assuming that every gas hob is supplied for both fuels.
What is a Fisher & Paykel vented induction hob?
It combines induction cooking and extraction in one appliance, drawing steam and cooking vapour down through the hob instead of relying on a separate overhead cooker hood.
Can Fisher & Paykel vented hobs recirculate?
Yes, Fisher & Paykel offers a dedicated recirculating 83cm model as well as a duct-out version. Their installation components and airflow routes differ, so select the required configuration before the kitchen is built.
Can Fisher & Paykel induction hobs be installed flush?
Many current induction models support flush or raised installation, but this is model specific. Check the worktop preparation and clearances in the exact installation guide.
How long is the Fisher & Paykel UK warranty?
Fisher & Paykel currently provides a five-year manufacturer's parts-and-labour warranty on appliances purchased in the UK, subject to its warranty conditions.
