Choosing the Right Miele Laundry Appliance
The best starting point is deciding whether you need a washing machine, a tumble dryer or a combined appliance. Separate machines provide dedicated washing and drying capacities, while a washer-dryer can be useful when space is limited.
For washing machines, compare load capacity, maximum spin speed, energy information, detergent-dispensing options and fabric-care programmes. For tumble dryers, consider drying capacity, moisture sensing, suitable programmes and installation requirements. Washer-dryers should be compared using both their washing and drying capacities, which are often different.
Miele Washing Machines
Our current Miele washing-machine selection includes 8kg, 9kg and 10kg models. Available features differ between appliances, with selected machines offering PowerWash, QuickPowerWash, SteamCare, TwinDos and Miele@home connectivity.
Some customers prioritise a larger drum or higher spin speed, while others prefer automatic detergent dispensing or additional garment-care programmes. For model-specific recommendations, explore our Best Miele Washing Machines guide or browse the complete washing-machine selection.
Miele Heat-Pump Tumble Dryers
Miele heat-pump tumble dryers use controlled drying temperatures and moisture sensing to help dry suitable fabrics. Depending on the model, features can include PerfectDry, EcoSpeed, DryCare 40, HygieneDry, SteamCare and FragranceDos.
Drying capacity and programme selection are particularly important when choosing a tumble dryer for family laundry, bedding or delicate garments. Browse our Miele tumble dryers or read our Best Miele Tumble Dryers comparison for guidance on individual models.
Miele Washer Dryers
A Miele washer-dryer combines washing and drying within a single appliance. This can be a practical option for smaller homes or kitchens where installing two separate machines would be difficult.
However, the maximum drying capacity is generally lower than the washing capacity. For example, the Miele WT1 washer-dryers in our current selection provide 8kg washing and 5kg drying capacities. A full washing load may therefore need to be divided before drying.

Miele WCS vs WPS Water Protection
When comparing Miele washing machines, you may notice model references ending in WCS or WPS. These identify different water-protection systems rather than washing-machine generations or detergent-dispensing technologies.
WCS stands for Water Control System. It monitors water intake and uses electronic detection to respond to certain leaks or unexpected water levels. The system includes protection against water collecting in the appliance's base.
WPS stands for Waterproof System. It provides additional inlet protection, including a double-skinned supply hose and valves designed to stop the water supply at the tap in the event of certain faults.
Both systems are designed to reduce the risk of water damage, but they use different components. A WPS designation does not automatically mean that a washing machine has better cleaning performance, greater capacity or more programmes.
Our current washing-machine selection includes WCS models such as the WED385 and WEG885, alongside the WER865 WPS. For a detailed explanation of the differences, read our Miele WCS vs WPS comparison.
Miele Laundry Features Worth Comparing
Miele washing machines and tumble dryers include different technologies designed to support cleaning performance, fabric care and everyday convenience. The features available depend on the individual model.
- TwinDos: Automatically dispenses compatible liquid detergent during selected washing programmes.
- PowerWash: Uses a controlled washing process to distribute water and detergent through the laundry.
- QuickPowerWash: Provides a shorter washing programme for suitable loads on compatible machines.
- SteamCare: Uses steam in selected programmes or functions to help refresh suitable garments or reduce creasing.
- PerfectDry: Uses moisture sensing to help compatible tumble dryers achieve the selected drying level.
- Miele@home: Provides supported connected functions, including appliance information and notifications, on compatible models.
If automatic detergent dispensing is an important consideration, our Miele TwinDos vs Manual Dosing guide explains the advantages and limitations in more detail.
Separate Miele Washing Machines and Tumble Dryers
Installing a separate washing machine and tumble dryer offers several practical advantages. You can wash a second load while the first is drying, and a dedicated tumble dryer can provide greater drying capacity than a combined washer-dryer.
Where floor space is limited, compatible Miele appliances can be stacked using the appropriate manufacturer's stacking kit. Check the individual models, installation dimensions and stacking-kit compatibility before purchasing.
A combined washer-dryer can still be the more practical choice where installation space is restricted or laundry volumes are relatively modest. The best solution depends on your household, available space and washing routine.
Miele Laundry Frequently Asked Questions
What Miele laundry appliances are available?
Our Miele laundry collection includes washing machines, heat-pump tumble dryers and combination washer-dryers. The available models differ in capacity, programmes, energy information, connectivity and additional features.
What is the difference between Miele WCS and WPS?
WCS stands for Water Control System, while WPS stands for Waterproof System. Both are designed to detect certain water-related faults. WPS adds protection at the water inlet, including a double-skinned hose and additional valve arrangements. The systems should be compared separately from washing performance and other appliance features.
Does WPS mean a Miele washing machine is better than WCS?
Not necessarily. WPS provides additional inlet-hose protection, but the best washing machine depends on its capacity, programmes, energy information, detergent-dispensing options and other specifications. A WCS washing machine may be more suitable for your needs than a differently equipped WPS model.
Is Miele TwinDos worth having?
TwinDos can be worthwhile for households that wash frequently and prefer automatic detergent dispensing. However, it requires compatible detergent and occasional maintenance. A washing machine with manual dosing may suit customers who prefer to choose and measure their own detergent.
Can Miele washing machines and tumble dryers be stacked?
Compatible Miele washing machines and tumble dryers can be stacked using an approved Miele stacking kit. Always check the manufacturer's instructions for the exact appliances and accessories before installation.
Should I choose a Miele washer-dryer or separate appliances?
A washer-dryer combines both functions in one appliance and can save space. Separate appliances generally provide greater dedicated drying capacity and allow washing and drying at the same time. Compare available installation space and typical laundry volumes before deciding.
