Why Choose the Bosch PUG61RAA5B Series 2 Induction Hob?
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B Series 2 60cm Induction Hob is a practical choice for households looking for fast, responsive induction cooking without the need for hardwired installation.
With four cooking zones, PowerBoost, QuickStart, intuitive touch controls and essential safety features, it offers a convenient combination of cooking performance and everyday usability. Its sleek, frameless black glass finish provides a modern appearance, while the smooth ceramic surface makes cleaning straightforward.
Whether you’re preparing quick weekday meals or cooking several dishes at once, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B delivers reliable induction cooking with the added convenience of 13-amp plug-and-play installation.
Easy Plug & Play Installation with a 13-Amp Plug
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B features Plug & Play installation, making it easy to get started. Supplied with a fitted 13-amp UK plug, the hob connects directly to a suitable socket without requiring professional hardwiring.
The plug limits the maximum power output to 3.7 kW (3700 W), providing sufficient power for everyday cooking. If you regularly prepare multiple dishes at high temperatures or require greater cooking power, a hardwired induction hob installed by a qualified electrician may be more suitable.
PowerBoost for Faster Heating
Spend less time waiting for pans to heat up with the PowerBoost function. Delivering up to 50% more power compared to the highest standard power level, PowerBoost provides an extra burst of heat when you need it most.
Ideal for bringing large quantities of water to the boil, this practical feature helps speed up meal preparation. PowerBoost is available on the rear-left cooking zone, giving you additional heating power for everyday cooking tasks.
Four Induction Cooking Zones for Flexible Cooking
With four induction cooking zones, the Bosch Series 2 PUG61RAA5B provides space to prepare different dishes at the same time. The hob features two 14.5cm cooking zones and two 18cm cooking zones, accommodating a variety of compatible pans.
Induction technology transfers heat directly to the base of the pan, delivering fast, responsive heating and precise temperature control. With 9 adjustable power settings for each cooking zone, you can easily select the right heat level for everything from gentle simmering to rapid boiling.
QuickStart for Effortless Cooking
The convenient QuickStart function helps you begin cooking without unnecessary delays. When you place a suitable pan on the hob, QuickStart detects its position and displays the corresponding cooking zone on the control panel.
Simply select your preferred power level and start preparing your meal. This intuitive feature makes the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob particularly convenient for busy kitchens.
Intuitive touchControl Operation
Adjust your cooking settings with ease using the hob’s touchControl interface. The responsive touch controls allow you to select cooking zones and adjust power levels directly from the smooth glass surface.
With nine power settings available for each zone, you can make precise adjustments to suit your cooking needs. The convenient quick switch-off function also allows you to turn off a cooking zone quickly when required.
Fast, Efficient Induction Cooking
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B uses induction heating technology to generate heat directly in the base of compatible cookware rather than heating the entire cooking surface.
This targeted heating method provides fast cooking performance while reducing unnecessary heat around the pan. Bosch states that its induction technology can bring two litres of water to the boil twice as fast as a conventional glass-ceramic hob.
Because heat is concentrated in the cookware, the surrounding glass surface remains cooler than on conventional electric hobs, although residual heat from hot pans can still warm the surface. This also helps make everyday cleaning easier.
ChildLock and Built-In Safety Features
Designed with everyday kitchen safety in mind, the Bosch Series 2 induction hob includes a range of practical protective features.
The ChildLock function locks the control panel to help prevent accidental changes to cooking settings. Separate residual heat indicators show when cooking zones may still be hot after use.
Additional safety features include pan recognition shut-off and an inactivity time shut-off function, providing added reassurance during daily cooking.
Sleek Frameless Black Glass Design
Give your kitchen a clean, contemporary finish with the Bosch PUG61RAA5B 60cm black glass induction hob. Its frameless ceramic glass surface creates a streamlined appearance that complements a wide range of modern kitchen designs.
The smooth surface is also easy to wipe clean, helping you maintain a tidy cooking area with minimal effort. With its compact 60cm width, the hob is designed to fit into a standard-sized kitchen worktop cut-out.

Frequently Asked Questions About the PUG61RAA5B
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob come with a plug?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B Series 2 Induction Hob comes with a fitted UK 13-amp plug, allowing you to connect it directly to a suitable mains socket without hardwiring. Its Plug & Play design makes installation straightforward, provided you have a suitable worktop cut-out and electrical socket available.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob need an electrician to install it?
No, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B does not normally require an electrician for its electrical connection because it comes with a fitted UK plug. Simply connect it to a suitable socket once the hob has been correctly fitted into your worktop. However, any alterations to your kitchen wiring or electrical sockets should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Can you use all four cooking zones at once on the Bosch PUG61RAA5B?
Yes, you can use all four induction cooking zones simultaneously. However, because the Bosch PUG61RAA5B has a maximum connected load of 3.7 kW, the available power is shared between the cooking zones. This means you cannot operate all four zones at their highest power settings simultaneously. For everyday cooking, this model offers the flexibility to prepare several dishes at once.
What are the dimensions of the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob?
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B measures 59.2cm wide, 52.2cm deep and 5.1cm high. It requires a worktop cut-out measuring 56cm wide and 49–50cm deep, with a minimum worktop thickness of 16mm. Although described as a 60cm induction hob, its actual width is 59.2cm, making it suitable for many standard kitchen installations.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B have a PowerBoost function?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B features PowerBoost on its 18cm rear-left cooking zone. This function provides up to 50% more power than the highest standard setting, helping you heat pans and bring water to the boil faster. It is particularly useful when preparing pasta, boiling vegetables or cooking meals that require rapid heating.
Can you use any saucepan on the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob?
No, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B requires induction-compatible cookware with a magnetic base. Suitable materials include magnetic stainless steel and cast iron. Aluminium, copper and glass cookware will not work unless they feature an induction-compatible base. A simple way to check your existing pans is to place a magnet against the bottom. If it sticks firmly, the pan is generally suitable for induction cooking.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B have a built-in timer?
No, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B does not include a built-in cooking timer or automatic timer-controlled zone switch-off. Instead, it offers nine adjustable power levels, responsive touch controls and a Quick Stop function for switching off individual cooking zones. It also features an automatic safety shut-off function that stops heating after a preset period of inactivity.
Is the Bosch PUG61RAA5B an induction hob or a ceramic hob?
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B is an induction hob with a smooth ceramic glass surface. Unlike conventional ceramic electric hobs, which use heating elements beneath the glass, induction technology generates heat directly in compatible cookware. This provides faster heating, responsive temperature control and improved energy efficiency while retaining the easy-clean benefits of a ceramic glass surface.
How many cooking zones does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B have?
The Bosch PUG61RAA5B features four induction cooking zones, including two 14.5cm zones and two 18cm zones. Each cooking zone offers nine adjustable power settings, allowing you to select the appropriate heat for different dishes. This arrangement provides flexibility for everyday cooking with smaller saucepans, frying pans and larger pots.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob have a child lock?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B includes a ChildLock function that locks the control panel to help prevent accidental operation. It also features automatic safety shut-off for additional protection. These safety functions make this induction hob a practical choice for busy family kitchens.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B have automatic pan detection?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B features QuickStart technology, which automatically identifies the cooking zone containing a suitable pan when the hob is switched on. You can then select your preferred power level using the touch controls. This helps make everyday cooking quicker and more convenient.
Can the Bosch PUG61RAA5B be used as a freestanding induction hob?
No, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B is designed to be installed into a kitchen worktop rather than used as a freestanding appliance. Although it features Plug & Play electrical installation, it must still be correctly fitted into a suitable worktop cut-out with the required ventilation and clearances. It should not be placed directly on top of a worktop for portable use.
Is the Bosch PUG61RAA5B powerful enough for everyday cooking?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B is designed for everyday cooking, with four induction zones, nine power settings and PowerBoost for faster heating. Its 3.7 kW connection rating allows it to operate from a standard suitable UK socket, although power is shared between the zones. We would recommend this model for households that want convenient induction cooking without a dedicated high-power electrical connection. For regularly cooking several dishes at maximum heat, a higher-powered hardwired induction hob may be more suitable.
Is the Bosch PUG61RAA5B induction hob easy to clean?
Yes, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B has a smooth, frameless black ceramic glass surface that is easy to wipe clean. Because induction technology heats the cookware directly, the surrounding glass generally stays cooler than on conventional electric hobs, helping reduce burnt-on food deposits. Allow the surface to cool before cleaning and use suitable ceramic hob cleaning products to maintain its appearance.
Does the Bosch PUG61RAA5B support Wi-Fi or Home Connect?
No, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B Series 2 Induction Hob does not feature Wi-Fi connectivity or Bosch Home Connect compatibility. All cooking functions are controlled directly through the integrated touchControl panel, providing straightforward operation without requiring a smartphone or additional app.
What is the difference between a plug-in induction hob and a hardwired induction hob?
The main difference is the electrical connection and available power. The Bosch PUG61RAA5B uses a fitted 13-amp UK plug with a maximum connection rating of 3.7 kW, making installation simpler than a hardwired model. Higher-powered hardwired induction hobs can provide greater total cooking power but require an appropriate electrical supply and professional installation. If you want the convenience of four induction zones without hardwiring, the Bosch PUG61RAA5B is a practical option.
Are there any suitable alternatives to the Bosch PUG61RAA5B Series 2 Induction Hob 60cm Black Glass I could consider?
Yes, you could consider the Bosch PWP611BB5B Series 4 Induction Hob 60cm Black Glass as a practical upgrade that retains the same 60cm dimensions, four cooking zones and convenient 13A Plug & Play installation, while adding CombiZone flexibility, 17 power levels and cooking timers. Alternatively, the Bosch PIX631HC1E Series 6 60cm 4 Zone FlexInduction Hob is a more premium option with FlexInduction cooking zones, PerfectFry Plus temperature control and Home Connect connectivity. Both are Bosch built-in induction hobs with comparable dimensions, although the Series 6 model requires professional electrical connection rather than standard plug-in installation.
